Suzan’s research is focused on the history of diversity policies in the Netherlands since 1945. Her research fits within the larger NWO/NWA-funded project Dilemmas of Doing Diversity which examines how diversity policies are shaped, implemented and put into practice and how they contribute (or not) to more inclusive and cohesive societies. Suzan holds a Master of Arts in History with a specialization in Governance of Migration and Diversity. Thus, her current research takes a historical approach trying to answer questions such as: when it comes to issues of social cohesion and diversity what or who was seen as a problem, by whom, what is seen as the cause of the problem and what as the solution, and whose problem was it? By doing this she seeks to explain choices and their consequences hoping to offer much needed context to the current debates on diversity related issues.
