The fourth cohort of the LDE Master GMD programme is coming to an end. Currently, students are finishing their theses, following internships and starting to look for the next challenges.
It was a great year with 58 students gaining knowledge and experience on how to address governance issues related to migration and diversity from a multidisciplinary perspective. During the past year, students visited the European Parliament and European Commission in Brussels, the Imam Malik Islamic Centre in Leiden, the National Centre of Expertise on Honour-Based Violence, and the Special Envoy for Migration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. During the site visits, students got the opportunity to engage with scholars and practitioners, and to learn about the applications of the knowledge acquired throughout the GMD Master programme in the practice of governance.

GMD Master goes online
The global spread of COVID-19 has also impacted our Master programme and everyone involved. Since March, all education activities have moved online in order to ensure that our current GMD students would be still able to complete their Master and graduate this year . We are very grateful and impressed how our students adapted to this new situation considering the challenges to study, making exams and writing their theses.
Besides their studies, GMD students also actively engaged in additional activities such as joining an online student workshop with GMD alumni and staff members to exchange ideas for the development of the GMD Master programme and the opportunities for the recently launched LDE Centre GMD, or writing opinion pieces on the situation at the Greek-Turkish border and the increasing forms of solidarity during the current pandemic.
It was a year full of enjoyable moments, intense exam periods, online teaching, and great student contributions. We are looking forward to the graduation ceremony and wish all GMD students a great and well deserved summer!
