In line with the Dutch National Institute Public Health and Environment regarding coronavirus precautions, we unfortunately have to cancel our Opening Conference on Friday 15 May 2020.
As we still want to officially celebrate the launch of the LDE Centre Governance of Migration and Diversity to discuss how governance can contribute to inclusive societies and how we can deal with the challenges and opportunities offered by migration and migration-related diversities, we aim to postpone our conference to this Autumn.
We will keep you informed on any updates and when you're able to register again.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please write us an email via info@gmdcentre.nl
Let’s make inclusive societies happen
Understanding the governance of superdiversity: past, present and futures
You’re cordially invited to the Opening Conference of the new LDE Centre Governance of Migration and Diversity. At this conference we launch the new LDE Centre GMD by inviting a variety of scholars, policymakers and civil society organizations to discuss how governance can contribute to inclusive societies and how we can deal with the challenges and opportunities offered by migration and migration-related diversities.
Migration and migration-related diversities are amongst the most complex governance challenges today. This is nothing new; migration has been at the heart of societal transformations in the past and is likely to remain so in the future. In fact, the rise of ‘superdiversity’ takes the importance of migration and diversity to a next level.
Understanding this complexity requires contributions from across various academic disciplines and demands a focus that connects the history and the present, and the local to the national and the global. Therefore, the University of Leiden, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam have agreed to work together in the LDE Centre Governance of Migration and Diversity to mobilize robust knowledge to understand the complexities of migration and diversity. The three universities are amongst the most diverse universities in the world while being located in some of the most diverse cities in the world, shaped by migration and migration-related diversities throughout their histories.
The program includes two state-of-the-art key-note speakers, while scholars and practitioners will share their expertise during interactive roundtable sessions.
The two keynotes of the day
Professor Amin is Professor of Geography and head of the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge. He is known for his work on the geographies of modern living, on ‘seeing like a city’ but also race and multiculturism as a hybrid of biopolitics. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Academy of Social Sciences and Foreign Member of the Italian Academia Nazionale Dei Lincei.
Professor Ghorashi is Full Professor of Diversity and Integration and Head of the Department of Sociology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
